We don’t have to keep dumbing down classical music to make it “cool.” It never will be “cool.” However, for those of us (now 11% of the population, keep in mind that’s for all classical music) who like classical music a lot, there are additional ways it can speak to our senses. Re-Imagining how to give us a better deeper understanding of what is happening in, with, around and through the music.
We need to infuse added dimensions into the experience that can elicit thoughts and emotions that listeners didn’t know the music could provide.
Footnote: science is now disputing that we have only 5 senses finding that we have between 11 and 20 different senses. Google it. Especially the sense of awe.
To do that a person needs to Re-Imagine what the music is saying, how it is saying it, how can we free the story within the music. How can we release what other dimensions an individual needs to experience and have a better, personalized understanding of the music? There are better ways to connect with their humanity. (Point 8 of 10 Things That Classical Audiences Want.)
